About the role:
We are seeking an outstanding Scientist to join the New Product Development (NPD) team and lead the product development and technology transfer efforts on the next generation of 10x products. This is a unique cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups including Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology, QC, Manufacturing, and Marketing to develop and validate reagents, consumables, and kits for the rapid expansion of 10X’s single-cell product portfolio. Candidates must have a broad working knowledge of molecular biology and be able to apply that knowledge independently and creatively toward the development and improvement of novel single-cell products and their QC/production methods. Previous industry experience in product development or process engineering, and ability to analyze large data sets is required. The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously execute and analyze highly complex experiments.

What you will be doing:
Lead the effort to define product Key Performance Indicators for all single cell products
Design and conduct experiments to determine underlying reaction mechanisms, cause and effect, failure modes, guard band studies and optimization using DOE methodologies.
Conceive, develop, validate, and implement new QC methods to assess reagent quality, emulsion chemistries, consumables, and kits through a variety of analytical and functional tests.
Help build out our internal manufacturing and process development infrastructure to improve our single cell products.
Development and optimization of novel reagents for applications within the single-cell portfolio of products
Independently troubleshoot and resolve reagent formulation, QC, and incoming material issues.
PhD or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Cell biology, Analytical Chemistry, or related fields.
5+ years (PhD) or 10+ years (MS) relevant Biotechnology industry experience
Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with a variety of NGS library preparation workflows; single cell workflows strongly preferred.
Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP to analyze complex data sets, create DOE experiments, and data trending.
Demonstrated success in developing and optimizing novel molecular biology assays in an industry setting.
Experience developing and implementing novel QC methods to assess reagent performance in both functional and orthogonal assays.
Ability to write SOPs and train others to successfully perform the work.
Exceptionally strong collaboration and communication skills.
NGS reagent and kit development experience as demonstrated by the successful launch of a commercial product
Demonstrated success moving products from concept phase through launch.
Hands-on experience with 10X single-cell products
Experience with automated liquid handling systems
Expertise in cell preparation, cell staining, and working with fixed samples.
Previous work with custom reagent vendors and setting up OEM relationships.
Previous experience supervising and/or mentoring junior staff
