About the role:
We are seeking an outstanding Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Consumable Products Development (CPD) Group at 10x Genomics. This is a key position for the commercialization of consumable products associated with Next Generation Sequencing chemistries. This candidate will be responsible for designing consumables and components that are integral part of the 10x product folio. The candidate will work closely with Product Development, Process Development, Manufacturing and R&D teams to assure 10x implements world class instrumentation, equipment and products.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track-record in developing consumables and components for the medical or biotech industry. This person should have a broad understanding of mechanical design, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), injection molding, tooling design, plastics, medical devices, etc. You should love solving difficult problems.
What you will be doing:
Lead the design and development of mechanical components and plastic consumables.
Work in collaboration with R&D and manufacturing teams to design, assemble and test prototypes
Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies.
Manage component/material suppliers and contract manufacturers
Manage full design cycle of plastic injection molded parts, tooling and consumable from gathering requirements to development and release
Collect, analyze and present metrology data in front of cross functional teams
Test and troubleshoot prototypes
Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 8 years post-graduate, industrial experience
Proficient with design and manufacturing of plastic consumable or medical devices
Experience designing injection molded parts
Understanding of material properties of plastics, metals, adhesives, etc
Expert at design for assembly and design for manufacturing
Proficient with Solidworks and PDM
Proficient with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Experience with finite element analysis and/or dynamic simulation software.
Strong organizational skills to manage multidisciplinary projects
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changes (e.g., priorities and timelines)
Desire to build game-changing technologies and impact the world of life science research
Experience with microfluidics device design and manufacturing a plus
Experience with analyzing complex datasets using JMP
Experience with precision manufacturing, CAM, metrology techniques such as white light interferometry and microscopy a plus
Capability to perform light mechanical/electrical work
Project Management Experience.
