What You Will Contribute to Altos
An exciting opportunity is available for a Scientist to join Altos Labs at our Bay Area Institute of Science. You will work in a highly collaborative, innovative and intellectually stimulating environment to tackle key questions in aging and injury associated changes of brain functions.

Responsibilities: 

  • Engage in ground-breaking and innovative science with a group of talented scientists.
  • Design and carry out research projects in collaboration with colleagues, outside agencies and collaborators. 
  • Use CRISPR-based platforms to perform genome-wide screening to identify genes and pathways important for the activation of microglia and maintenance of brain functions.
  • Develop project-specific experimental strategies, techniques, and procedures.
  • Mentor and train research associate(s).
  • Contribute to writing and dissemination of research results.

Who You Are 
Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in the Life Sciences or other relevant discipline. 
  • Documented record of professional achievement in the form of impactful publications. 
  • Excellent understanding of Innate Immunity, Neuroinflammation, and/or Glia-neuron Interactions.
  • Strong experience conducting high throughput screening using CRISPR-based functional assays.
  • Expertise in cell/molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including primary and cell line culture, qPCR, western blots, and ELISA-based assays.
  • Excellent professional presenting skills and the ability to attune to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent computer skills, including advanced proficiency MS Office, and Prism GraphPad or equivalent graphic skills.
  • Problem-solving skills sufficient to identify issues, conduct research, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with a broad range of people, including staff colleagues, outside agencies and collaborators, and the community.
  • Ability to organize work and set priorities.
  • Ability to focus on details to produce accurate, quality work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral or equivalent industrial experience. 
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
  • Experience with multi-omics analyses and/or treatment of in vivo disease models.
