Business Analyst

The role of the Commercial Business Operations and Partnering Analyst, located in Emeryville, CA, will be to support the business-to-business ingredient commercial team in operations of existing partnering projects and assist in new partnering through opportunity analysis, business case development and market research.

As Amyris looks to expand our commercial partnerships through the application of our biotechnology platform, this position will support overall ingredients business growth thru improving operational efficiencies, execution of project-related operational tasks, and supporting the evaluation of new business opportunities. The candidate should have a solid operational and analytical background and be a strong communicator with both commercial and scientific functions. In addition, for market research and synthesis of effective summaries and presentation materials, proficiency in business writing and attention to detail will be important.
Facilitate cross-functional team operations across manufacturing, supply chain, finance, quality, R&D and commercial functions and seek to improve operational efficiencies where possible
Develop in-depth knowledge of the industry, Amyris technology, markets, and the competitive landscape in the Flavor and Fragrances and Beauty & Personal Care ingredient markets
Conduct market research to identify market-making ingredients and applications that can be served by Amyris’ technology platform
Coordinate communications and material preparation for internal and external discussions
Manage and execute market research and business case development programs
Assist in ideation pipelines utilizing internal and external resources (commercial and R&D leadership, external partners, universities, think tanks, consultants)
Evaluate competitive space around biotechnologies and applications of synthetic biology
Support partnership management and deal negotiations through accurate market research, clear market reports and executive-style summaries, presentation material generation, basic financial modeling, and quantitative product sustainability/ESG analysis
Be a resource for adjacent commercial teams and foster excellent working relations within the company and industry
BS or MS in Science, Engineering, Biotechnology or an MBA and 3+ years in a relevant business sector performing market research and/or project operations to support strategic decisions and meet business growth objectives
The ideal candidate will have the technical foundation and the education or experience in project operations and market analysis to support cross-functional operational initiatives and identify new business partnering opportunities for existing and new ingredients ripe for synthetic bio-disruption
Strong understanding of biotechnology and familiarity with sustainability/ESG metrics
Industrial experience in the consumer ingredients or beauty &personal care markets
Demonstrated capability to form/work in highly streamlined cross-functional collaborations
An ambitious resourceful self-starter who can expand on requested market analysis, connect the dots, and convert information into insights that will enable strategic decisions
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deliver on commitments and adapt to changing priorities
