Senior Key Account Manager

The role of the Senior Key Account Manager will be to lead all existing partnering and new business development for applications of farnesene as a starting raw material in specialty chemicals. This high impact position will be responsible for an existing portfolio of several million in annual sales across a portfolio of global partners and customers. The Sr. Account Manager will lead partnering strategy through opportunity analysis, business case development and market research from ideation through sales. To effectively accomplish this, they will generate demand through discovery to uncover unmet needs, articulate compelling customer value propositions, leverage internal cross-functional partners and develop account strategies which align with Amyris’ overarching business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in synthetic chemistry, and some experience with polymer chemistry. This will be important for managing customer relationships and identifying opportunities for farnesene as well as additional future molecules. Up to 50% travel in the US, APAC and Europe is anticipated.

As Amyris looks to expand our commercial partnerships through the application of our biotechnology platform, this position will support overall ingredients business growth. The candidate should have a solid operational and analytical background and be a strong communicator with both commercial and scientific functions.
Responsibilities:
Cultivate new and strengthen existing customer relationships to drive sales and profitability with existing and new applications of Amyris farnesene
Implement strategic initiatives and build comprehensive business cases for new markets to successfully grow business globally
Lead price negotiations with customers and manage profitability to achieve financial targets
Collaborate with other strategic partners and the Amyris commercial strategy team to identify and implement new commercial opportunities
Present to customers and/or coordinate presentations and customer visits/workshops
Create and manage opportunities within Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
Forecast based on customer demand, market insights, and opportunity progression to provide regular volume guidance and enable production planning & supply chain execution
Drive internal supply & operational planning priorities between manufacturing, supply chain, finance, regulatory and ensure clear alignment with customers
Conduct data-based territory analysis and prioritize efforts to maximize territory performance
Tailor value propositions by cultivating close relationships with key accounts to ensure customer benefits are communicated and market opportunities are well understood
Utilize public and business resources for competitive and customer information that allows a broader understanding of the market and use this to expand sales within the territory
Build a strong network within the customer organization at all levels, including top executives
Translate customer’s strategy and priorities into new opportunities and joint innovation
Qualifications:
BS or MS in Science, Engineering, Biotechnology
Minimum of 5 years in account management, sales, or business development in a B2B environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Chemistry, polymer science, or chemical engineering experience
Experience selling to Specialty/Fine Chemicals across geographies globally. Knowledge of Asian markets a strong plus
Excellent collaboration, communication, and negotiations skills
The ideal candidate will have the technical foundation and is able to effectively communicate complex solutions and scenarios to a broad audience
MBA preferred
