Our mission at Ansa Biotechnologies is to revolutionize the way we make DNA. Compared to reading or editing life’s code, writing new code from scratch has remained one of the field’s most elusive challenges. We believe proteins are the key to unlocking next-generation DNA synthesis. As a protein engineering scientist, you will be a part of a creative team of like-minded scientists who get tremendous satisfaction improving upon the enzymes central to Ansa’s technology. You will have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge techniques and assays to create the suite of proteins that will power our DNA construction and assembly platforms.

Design, implement, and manage experiments for generating libraries and multiplexed characterization of proteins
Finding enzyme mutants with improved functionality in regards to DNA synthesis and downstream processing steps (e.g. improving step-wise yield, lowering mutation rates, DNA assembly, etc.)
Being a team leader: provide guidance and career development to an interdisciplinary team of protein engineers. Assist your fellow scientists with constructive criticism and feedback.
Collaborating in a team environment: At Ansa, communication between teams is critical–our technology is built on enzymes, chemistry, and automation. Additionally, we believe that honesty and openness are an instrumental part of the scientific endeavor.

PhD or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
Intuition with protein structure-function relationships.
Familiarity with methods of creating diverse libraries of mutant enzymes.
Experience developing assays for testing enzyme activity; experience with DNA processing enzymes is a bonus.
Experience working with high-throughput screening or selection techniques is a bonus.
Experience purifying enzymes and developing assays compatible with liquid-handling robots is a plus.
