Mid-Level Lab Equipment Specialist

The Laboratory Equipment Specialist is a co-builder inspired to provide force-multiplying systems to build and expand the life-science ecosystem.

The Laboratory Equipment Specialist will work both independently and with other members of the Bonneville Labs Operations team to develop processes that provide member companies with the services, supplies, and equipment they need to accomplish their research. The position will also include tracking and partially managing the current processes while suggesting process improvements. The Laboratory Equipment Specialist will support multiple facilities and customers in the San Francisco Bay Area, in this role will be team-oriented, interact with a diverse group of member staff, and flourish in a fast-paced and demanding research environment.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Collaborate with other Bonneville Labs staff to provide an outstanding customer experience for our members.
Perform all duties and job functions associated with site operations (coordinators, technicians, etc.)
Proactively interact with member scientists to identify and resolve issues with equipment, services, and supplies. Use a ticket system to record issues and report progress to requestors.
Coordinate with BVL team and outside vendors for lab support (equipment, services, facilities, etc.)
Contributes to creating, updating, and following Standard Operating Procedures associated with BVL site operations.
Suggest ideas and bring solutions for site improvements and increase efficiency.
Manage the training of members on EH&S and equipment used for the site.
Assist with any changes or cleaning necessary for the site to maintain an appealing atmosphere.
Help improve existing policies and procedures that act as a template for current and future BVL sites.
Responsible for BVL equipment calibration, preventative maintenance, and qualification (IQ, OQ, PQ)
Responsible for equipment introduction, maintenance, decontamination, relocation, and removal from service.
Equipment and facility maintenance, ‘day-to-day’ procedures, following internal procedures, and direct instruction, which can include:
Respond to equipment support requests at various Bonneville Labs sites and customer sites
Duties include installing, inspecting, monitoring, calibrating, repairing, and maintaining equipment & instrumentation
Plan and schedule repairs and maintenance, as well as, liaise with vendors and suppliers
Maintain inventory of equipment assets, parts, and supplies
Perform routine equipment maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and calibrated to industry standards
Assess equipment to determine whether it requires periodic calibration and/or PM during its service life and the requirements described in the SOP, prior to use.
Provide technical support and train staff on equipment Standard Operating Procedures
Maintain up-to-date knowledge about company equipment and technical functional characteristics
Responsible for identifying faulty equipment and suggesting upgrades when necessary
Respond to urgent calls
Maintains quality metrics, key performance indicators, and lean methodologies for operational excellence.
It may require traveling between Bonneville Labs sites and customer sites
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

Minimum Education Level: An AA Degree in life sciences or related field of study, or a high school diploma with 2 years experience (see below)
Minimum Experience: 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting and 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role is desirable.
Specific Skills: Organized, independent, team player, able to follow instructions, good written and verbal communication skills in English, strong computer skills, and customer service
Personal Characteristics: Able to work in a flexible and fast-paced environment that is constantly changing
Certifications: none required but EH&S, HazMat, and bloodborne pathogen training is highly desirable
Travel: Must be able to travel between sites 50% of the time
Licenses: Drivers license is required as some travel may be needed between sites
Physical Abilities: Able to lift 50 lbs., work requires walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
Ability to perform duties with the highest regard for safety, quality, and site protocols or procedures.
