Lab Operations Coordinator

The Laboratory Operations Coordinator is a co-builder inspired to provide force-multiplying systems to build and expand the life-science ecosystem.

The Laboratory Operations Coordinator will work both independently and with other members of the Bonneville Labs Operations team to develop processes that provide member companies with the services, supplies, and equipment they need to accomplish their research. The position will also include tracking and partially managing the current processes while suggesting process improvements. The Laboratory Operations Coordinator will support multiple facilities and customers in the San Francisco Bay Area, in this role will be team-oriented, interact with a diverse group of member staff, and flourish in a fast-paced and demanding research environment.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Collaborate with other Bonneville Labs staff to provide an outstanding customer experience for our members.
Perform all duties and job functions associated with site operations (coordinators, technicians, etc.)
Proactively interact with member scientists to identify and resolve issues with services, equipment, and supplies. Use an electronic ticket system to record issues and report progress to requestors.
Coordinate with BVL team and outside vendors for lab support (equipment, services, facilities, etc.)
Assist with any changes or cleaning necessary for the site to maintain an appealing atmosphere.
Help improve existing policies and procedures that act as a template for current and future BVL sites.
Proactively interact with BVL member companies to identify and resolve issues with services, equipment, and supplies.
Office, facility, and laboratory maintenance, ‘day-to-day’ procedures, following internal procedures, and direct instruction, which can include:
Support Community Engagement by managing weekly bagel hours, periodic happy hours, and events
Serve as the primary point of contact for Members regarding business/office operational issues.
Answer phones and route callers to appropriate departments for assistance
Ensures that the office environment is tidy and pleasant (including conference room preparation and coordination with janitorial services)
Verify and assist with check-in of all vendors, visitors, contractors, and new members when they arrive on site.
Serve as primary contact for ordering all supplies for BVL Ops Team.
Serve as liaison between IT and members regarding copiers and printers, projection screens, and conference room AV.
Complete inventory checks and daily tasks such as making coffee, checking restrooms, and restocking kitchen consumables.
Collaborate with internal team to quickly address Bonneville Labs maintenance issues; schedule, coordinate, and ensure problem resolution
Collect, sort, and distribute mail to members.
Provide lab support team assistance when requested
Duties include glassware washing, autoclave, inventory management, preparing solutions, biohazardous waste, safety station inspections, and receiving and delivery of packages.
Keep common and instrument areas clean and orderly.
Maintain biosafety cabinets and incubators, including regular sterilizations
Miscellaneous cleaning tasks as needed
May require traveling between Bonneville Labs sites and customer sites
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

Minimum Education Level: An AA Degree in life sciences or related field of study, or a high school diploma with 2 years experience (see below)
Minimum Experience: 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting and 1 year of experience in a customer-facing role is desirable.
Specific Skills: Organized, independent, team player, able to follow instructions, good written and verbal communication skills in English, strong computer skills, and customer service
Personal Characteristics: Able to work in a flexible and fast-paced environment that is constantly changing
Certifications: none required but EH&S, HazMat, and bloodborne pathogen training is highly desirable
Travel: Must be able to travel between sites 50% of the time
Licenses: Drivers license is required as some travel may be needed between sites
Physical Abilities: Able to lift 50 lbs., work requires walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
Ability to perform duties with the highest regard for safety, quality, and site protocols or procedures.
