The NIH has launched a program to study senescent cells which play positive and negative roles in biological processes. We are seeking a Bioinformatics Researcher to manage data for the newly implemented Senescence Network (SenNet) platform. As part of the SenNet platform, the Buck Data Analysis Core is the nucleating facility between the Biospecimen Core, Administrative Core and Bioanalysis Core of this U54 NIH longitudinal study of cellular senescence.

Key roles include interacting with the Consortium’s Data Coordination Centers to ensure that data and protocols are shared in a timely/efficient manner and made publicly available through the Buck Institute (e.g., our SASP Atlas open web site) and/or Consortium web sites. Other responsibilities include: (1) collaborate with staff members, research scientists and principle investigators, (2) maintain a data submission website and (3) lead the expansion of the existing HPC server for the Buck Bioinformatics Core. This is a full-time position.    


  • Interact and coordinate between groups to ensure timely collection of data. 
  • Curate and upload data samples to central repository.
  • Review and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for data transfer and management.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with NIH SenNet groups to improve upon current systems.
  • Act as Administrator for the Furman Lab High Performance Computing (HPC) Server.
  • Manage the AI Platform data submission website.


Required Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer or Data Science or related discipline
  • Proficiency with website design and maintenance
  • Aptitude with computer architecture and scaling systems for expansion
  • Bash scripting
  • Previous experience with computer cluster management system (HPC), such as Sun Grid Engine and Slurm Workload Manager
  • Prior experience with IT, troubleshooting and working with biological data
  • Ability to generate File Transfer Protocols (FTP’s)

  • Ph.D. in Computer or Data Science or related discipline
  • Previous experience with database management (e.g. SQL)
