Scientist II, Genomics

We are looking for a creative-thinking and well-rounded Scientist II who will join our Genomics group. In this role, you will collaborate with scientists across different groups at Caribou with the goal of understanding what genomic characterizations are needed. You will propose new methods to answer these questions and work with the Genomics team to carry out experiments and generate data. The ideal candidate will interact closely with other Scientists to understand their research, create and execute plans to help answer their questions, and report results. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to contribute ideas that will help define future scientific programs at Caribou. As a motivated and enthusiastic candidate, you will work well independently and on collaborative projects with multiple researchers. You will be part of strategic decision-making and work on cutting-edge technologies to deliver on impactful research projects that we believe will ultimately positively impact the lives of patients.

Responsibilities include:

Develop impactful workflows from molecular assay set-up and library prep to downstream NGS data analysis
Designing and preparing for complex experiments
Coordinating with researchers across the organization to plan and execute experiments and develop new assays
Keeping accurate records of experiments and results
Interpreting and communicating results clearly internally and externally
Managing and ordering supplies and maintain equipment to meet company quality standards

PhD in Genetics, Genomics, or other relevant field and 3 – 8 years of experience in the biotech industry, academic laboratory, or core facility
Expertise working in mammalian cell systems
Experience with with molecular biology techniques, especially those directly related to NGS (e.g., DNA extractions, PCR, bead- and column-based purifications)
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
Ability to execute experiments independently with little guidance
Nice-to-have (but not required):

Experience working with or developing methods for high-throughput laboratory automation systems
Knowledge of analytical and visualization software packages such as R, NumPy/SciPy
Experience with analysis of NGS data
