Senior Software Developer

We are seeking a versatile full stack Senior Software Engineer with a passion for applying technology to biology, to make an impact in developing our revolutionary genome engineering technologies. In this position, you will enable transformational science by collaborating with a team of world-class scientists to build custom tools to organize and analyze biological data. We have many opportunities for you to grow in this role including taking on technical leadership responsibilities for complex in-house software applications and systems. Leveraging your knowledge of best practices in software development will help Caribou create a robust, maintainable infrastructure.

Responsibilities will include:

Build and maintain the computational infrastructure to support a variety of analytical pipelines, analysis tools, databases, and data visualizations.
Collaborate with Caribou scientists to identify project needs and build systems that enable comprehensive data tracking, analysis, and quality control
Develop software to analyze and visualize results from various genomic and cellular analysis platforms
Support appropriate software development best practices across Caribou’s programmer and informatics teams

BS/MS in computer science, engineering, or physics with demonstrated programming proficiency (Python required)
A minimum of 5 years of experience coding as a key contributor in a larger team effort
An interest in developing and supporting both back end and front-end systems

Management experience in the context of software project teams
Background in life science research, or prior experience in programming in support of scientific research
Previous exposure to modern genomics, high-throughput sequencing, single cell technology, transcriptomics and/or molecular biology is highly desirable
Experience developing full stack web applications using Flask or similar
Experience with local and/or cloud-based HPC environments
Knowledge of analytical and visualization software packages such as R, NumPy/SciPy, and D3js
Experience with database integration, maintenance, and optimization
