Research Associate, In Vivo

Position Summary

Animal Technician to conduct in vivo studies in mice at our local vivarium.  The successful candidate will be required to work with BSL2 level infectious agents.  This position also requires some laboratory work outside the vivarium, at Cidara’s main lab, processing samples for in vitro analysis. This position will directly support our Cloudbreak antiviral program by providing critical PK/PD and efficacy data to support compound development activities.  Position reports to Senior Director, Preclinical Development, and works closely with the Senior Animal Technician.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop/validate various models of infectious disease (ID) using viral, and bacterial pathogens
  • Conduct PK/PD studies in mice
  • Run tolerability studies
  • Conduct efficacy studies in mouse models of ID
  • Prepare viral and bacterial inoculum in support of efficacy studies
  • Collect, analyze, and archive data
  • Schedule and coordinate with vivarium staff to support multiple, concurrent animal studies
  • Discuss and design studies with the director and senior animal technician
  • Ability to work weekends occasionally (health checks, body weight measurements)

Minimum Qualifications 

  • At least 1 year of previous related research, a combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered
  • Prior experience in handling small animals safely, efficiently, and humanely
  • Knowledge of standard dosing routes – PO, SC, IP, IM, IV
  • Knowledge of non-terminal bleeding in rodents, such as cheek bleeds
  • Ability to work with large numbers of animals in a single study
  • Working knowledge of Excel and ability to organize large data sets
  • Comfort with culturing, handling, and quantitating BSL2 level pathogens
  • Ability to work independently when necessary
  • Good communicator, willing to work collaboratively with other departments
  • High degree of scientific integrity; ability to report problems/mistakes when they occur so solutions can be found
  • Requires reliable transportation to commute between Cidara and our vivarium (~5 miles)

Preferred Qualifications    

  • Prior experience with viral and bacterial models
  • Prior experience conducting PK/PD studies
  • Microbiology background
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory setting (use of pipettes, general lab equipment)
