Mammalian Cell Culture Biologist (Part Time)

Position Overview:

THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION 3 DAYS A WEEK.  The Associate Scientist – Mammalian Cell Culture will support the biology team with the cell-culture of cancer cells and other mammalian cell-lines. This includes thawing cell stocks, establish and banking cultures, expand cultures to desired volume to supply in-vivo biology group. Additionally, the person in this position will help with maintenance of the Tissue Culture facility: order of reagents such as culture media components and reagents, compressed gas tanks, sanitation of the facility, biosafety cabinets and incubators.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain and bank tumor cell-lines and other mammalian cells including primary cells and hybridomas
  • Expand cell cultures up to several hundred millions cells to supply in-vivo efficacy studies
  • General maintenance of the Tissue Culture facility
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Strong experience with aseptic techniques is a requirement

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • B.Sc. degree or M.Sc. degree in biology, life science, biochemistry, biotechnology, or closely related field, preferably with prior experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Prior experience with mammalian cell culture is a must
  • Familiarity with common mammalian cell culture techniques (thawing, splitting, banking and expanding tumor cell-lines)
  • Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and commitment to adhere to laboratory safety procedures
  • Commitment to rigorous data recording
  • Strong hands-on laboratory skills
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and dependability
  • Familiarity with biopharmaceutical and/or scientific terminology highly preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal collaboration and communication skills, appropriately tailored for a variety of audiences (levels, functions, backgrounds)
  • Demonstrated self-sufficiency, creative problem solving, and ability to execute in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion on company matters
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative problem-solving skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and related scientific documents. Ability to write reports and presentations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a lab setting with exposure to animals/biohazards.
  • There are conditions, equipment and materials present which require proper handling to ensure safety.
  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
