Position Summary

Poseida is seeking an experienced individual who will be responsible for development and leadership of the Drug Development Portfolio Management function.  The Director, Portfolio Management will be expected to apply best practices in the industry of Bio/Pharma early clinical development to enable strategic decision making and implementation by executive leadership. They interact with external stakeholders and internal cross functional groups, including research and development, process development, manufacturing, clinical and regulatory to provide clear direction and set expectations.  They will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills to work across functions, and influence to facilitate execution of key projects and initiatives aligned with corporate vision. 



These may include but are not limited to:

·       Partnering with the Project Management Office (PMO) to establish and align on business needs and develop appropriate and fit-for-purpose solutions

·       Design, specification, utility of content of Product/Program Reporting (generated by / facilitated by PMO)​

·       Develop tracking dashboards for executive leadership

·       Leads internal initiative teams as needed to build out robust portfolio management features

·       Portfolio (multi-program) consolidated analysis, of identified fundamental factors, including:​ Quality, Quantity, Speed, Timing​

·       Integration and consolidation of technical and operational Product/Program risk into overall portfolio risk​, development and integration of qualitative standards (confidence, strategic fit, others)​ into portfolio perspective

·       Analytics and data integration across various additional sources such as competitive, financial, economic factors; value and revenue potential (such as market factors, regions, HEOR, asset / extension strategies)

·       Risk-adjusted pipeline delivery forecasting, modeling, throughput​; applying attrition and slippage metrics to overall portfolio delivery and financial impact

·       Portfolio-level review process development, and management of semi-annual meetings with leadership

·       Program governance decision making support, including support of stage-gate based program progression standards and guidelines for effective program review by executive leadership ​

·       Portfolio prioritization, business planning, strategic budget planning, and mid- to long-term resource forecasting​.

·       Generate and evaluate scenarios for executive leadership to inform long range planning

·       Facilitate effective utilization and forecasting of Product/Program resource needs based on robust resource management platform and information

·       Recommend and implement innovative process ideas that impact execution and cost efficiency

·       Apply decision analysis tools to analyze complex situations and recommend defensible actions and solutions

·       Maintain an in-depth understanding of our technology and drug development processes

·       Work with finance to manage portfolio budgeting process and monitor project spend

·       Support annual reporting and audit management as needed; provide input to the portfolio prioritization process and participate in other key strategic business decisions, as necessary and develop partner business plans or other activities to support the advancement of the partnership if necessary


Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·       Must have a BS/BA degree; higher education degree preferred (MBA, MS, PhD) with a minimum of 12 years of multi-disciplinary experience within early clinical product/program development of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry

·       Proven multi-project / portfolio management and leadership experience; at least 5 years of hands on experience working across programs at different stages and across multiple indications or therapeutic areas.

·       Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with focus on accomplishing company goals and objectives in a dynamic business environment

·       Demonstrated successful experience influencing teams, both internal and cross-company, in a matrix management environment

·       Strong proficiency with project management practices, tools and methodology including Gantt Charts, MS Project, Power Point, SharePoint, and Project and Portfolio Management systems such as Planisware

·       Strong understanding of drug development strategies, across all critical product development disciplines (Nonclinical, Clinical, CMC, RA/QA, Medical Affairs, Commercial)

·       Background in biologics and/or immune-oncology, gene and/or cell therapy preferred

·       Strong leader with focus and drive to succeed—confidence, passion, results oriented and high energy

·       Ability to present thoughts clearly and concisely to a wide variety of stakeholders including but not limited to executive leadership, senior management, and corporate partners

·       Independent and Self Driven

·       Outstanding written and oral communication and negotiation skills are essential

·       Must have strong interpersonal skills capable of working with a diverse group of people

·       Travel may be required up to ~20%
