POSITION TITLE: Laboratory Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patapoutian lab is seeking a lab manager to supervise and perform technical and administrative tasks. We are a very collaborative and intellectually curious group. You will oversee management of lab, including mouse colony, supervise lab technicians, and contribute experimentally to research projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Contribute significantly to scientific projects.
Perform animal procedures and behavioral experiments.
Perform basic molecular biology experiments including PCR, QPCR, cloning, and immunohistochemistry.
Perform animal procedures.
Oversee and maintains mouse colonies.
Ensure operation of essential equipment and maintains supply inventory.
Maintain protocols and proper documentation.
Assist with monitoring Laboratory budget.
Arrange material transfers and shipments.
Assist in the development and maintenance of lab policies, procedures and quality control practices.
Ensure lab safety and compliance.
Establish positive working relationship with staff, customer service, performance improvement, and maintaining intra- and interdepartmental communication.
Support and delegate the responsibilities of the Laboratory staff.
Provide oversight of all aspects of the laboratory management, including administrative, financial and personnel planning.
Personnel training in analytical methods and new technologies.
Organize onboarding of new hires, initial training, ensures that policies and procedures are established for monitoring staff to assess competency, and whenever necessary, provides remedial training or continuing education to improve skills.
Ensure quality control and quality assessment programs are established and maintained to assure the quality of services provided and to identify failures in quality as they occur.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in biomedical or relevant scientific discipline.
3+ years of experience in methods and techniques dependent on lab research focus.
1+ years in a supervisory or management capacity in a laboratory setting is preferred.
Well organized, strong attention to detail, highly effective written and verbal communication, demonstrated ability to effectively work within all levels of a laboratory environment.
Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, balanced assertiveness, and team orientation.
Adheres to Department Specific Safety Guidelines.
Computer skills and knowledge of laboratory automation systems.
COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $74,880 to $95,597 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
