POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant II
POSITION SUMMARY: The genomics-oriented cell biology laboratory of Dr. William E. Balch in the Department of Molecular Medicine at Scripps Research has an opening for individuals with interest in understanding and treating mono and polygenic disease driven by genetic diversity in the population. Strong interest in candidates that have strength in experimental tools to explore application of precision medicine to the  management genetic disease.  Skill sets include culture of human heterologous and primary cell lines including hiPSCs, familiarity with biochemical and technical tools required for mammalian cell-based high-throughput/high-content screening (HTS/HCS) analyses, and biochemical/computational approaches for analyses of complex datasets.   
Management of human tissue culture (heterologous, primary, iPSCs) for biological assays.
Contribute to development and application of novel HTS/HCS assays  to assess impact of genetic diversity  for different gene targets including associated computational skills to analyze datasets.
Contribute to genotype to phenotype analyses using biochemical tools including among others SDS-PAGE and ELISA based technologies.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
Requires 3-5 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 2+ years experience required.
Candidates possessing a master’s degree, with 3+ years’ experience will be considered.
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in cell/molecular/genomic/proteomic related systems biology with interest in  experimental approaches to analyze HTS/HCS acquired large datasets in mammalian cells 
Interest in the genetic diversity driving the biology of human health and disease
Ability to work in a laboratory setting both independently and in coordination with other lab members.
COMPENSATION:  Salary is commensurate with experience.
