POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant III
POSITION SUMMARY: A research assistant III position is available immediately, for a self-motivated experienced candidate to become part of the Center of HIV/AIDS Vaccine Development (CHAVD) for analysis of preclinical and clinical samples from vaccine trials and experiments.
The successful candidate will process specimens of human or animal origin for analysis of the antibody responses elicited by HIV vaccine candidates. The candidate will perform routine scientific tasks with a focus on virus neutralization assays (HIV pseudovirus and replication competent virus) and antibody effector function assays. The candidate will also perform virus (pseudo-)virus production, production and purification of recombinant proteins and antibodies (by affinity and size exclusion chromatography), protein characterizations (ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot), and will set up and operate standard lab equipment as well as equipment of moderate to high complexity, record data, and provide basic analyses and interpretations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: The responsibility of the job also includes performing molecular biology procedures such as cloning of plasmid DNA, PCR, expression of novel recombinant proteins, maintaining the plasmid and antibody library, and other related duties, tasks, and responsibilities as required or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 5-7 years’ experience. Research experience that provides practical familiarity with immunology, primary blood mononuclear cell culture, antibodies, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and general laboratory procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $68,000 – $81,600 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
