Viridos (formerly Synthetic Genomics, Inc) is a privately held biotechnology company harnessing the power of photosynthesis to create transformative solutions to mitigate climate change. Our unparalleled understanding of algal genetics and ability to translate innovation from lab to field underpins our initial deployment: a scalable platform to produce low-carbon intensity biofuels for aviation, commercial trucking, and maritime shipping. Building on a legacy of genomic firsts, our team of scientists and engineers are shaping new pathways toward a sustainable bioeconomy. We are currently looking to add a Research Associate to our team in La Jolla, CA.
The Research Associate will be responsible for processing of multiple samples within the Analytical Chemistry laboratory. The Research Associate will also be responsible for providing hands-on support of analytical method development and validation. This work is in support of several programs that emphasize lipid and algal biomass productivity.
In collaboration with project participants and other analytical staff, the Research Associate is responsible for various sample handling including sample preparation, instrumental measurements, and data reporting with fast turn-around time, by applying validated methods to new and ongoing projects.
Accuracy in performing common wet chemistry techniques, such as pipetting, serial dilutions, weighing, arithmetic operations, and producing calibration curves is necessary.
Routinely upload analytical results in LIMS-based reports.
Identify aberrant or non-conforming results and perform limited root cause analysis.
Responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, calibration and maintenance of Agilent GCs and Shimadzu TOCs is expected. Serves as a day-to-day interface between project participants and the analytical group.
Maintain a culture of safety in the facilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires a B.S./B.A. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or other appropriate subject with a minimum of 1-3 year relevant, experience.
· Demonstrated strong hands-on wet chemistry skills and sample preparation knowledge. Experience with analytical instrumentation and software (TOC, HPLC, GC and LC) is desired. Experience with GC-MS or LC-MS is a big plus.
Ability to accurately follow written protocols involving complex sample preparations, such as chemical derivatization of fatty acids, is essential.
· The ability to critically analyze chromatographic results and quantitatively assess data quality is highly desirable.
The ability to maintain and troubleshoot a variety of analytical equipment and instrumentation is highly desirable.
LIMS experience is a huge plus.
Familiarity with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point) and simple statistical analysis is required.
Comprehension of the concepts involving the use of internal or external standards for quantitation is expected.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and have strong oral and written communication abilities.
