We are currently looking to add a Senior Data Engineer to join our Sensor Network and Analytics Platform (SNAP) team.
Responsibilities
Design and develop automated data processing pipelines for laboratory and commercial farming datasets using Python, SQL and AWS cloud technologies
Implement data models, database schemas, data structures and processing logic to support automated insights
Collaborate with data scientists and other stakeholders to define SLAs for data availability, quality, usability, and correctness
Develop and maintain automated data availability, quality monitoring, and alerting solutions for SNAP
Manage concurrent requests from multiple research teams and strategically, prioritize when necessary
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
5-10 years of work experience as a Data Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar role
At least 3 years working with IoT data, traditional sensor data, or telemetry
At least 3 years working within a scientific or research and development organization
Required Skills
Intermediate to Advanced knowledge in Python
Intermediate to Advanced knowledge in SQL
Working knowledge of database architecture, data modeling, workload management, and AWS ecosystem
Ability to design and develop ETL and data pipelines from a variety of data sources (e.g., 3rd party application web APIs, databases, text files)
Effectively communicate and collaborate with business and scientific leads from other organizations
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Enjoys working with all aspects of data: analyzing, organizing, improving quality, visualizing, and algorithm development
Passionate about delivering high quality, data solutions to further scientific research within an algal biofuels program
Desired Skills
Experience working with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
Experience with Google Cloud Products (e.g., Big Query)
